Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
